A MiG-21 aircraft of the Indian Air Force has crashed in Rajasthan. The aircraft crashed in Barmer district and the two pilots who were flying it had managed to eject safely.
A MiG-21 aircraft of the Indian Air Force has crashed in Rajasthan. The aircraft crashed in Barmer district and the two pilots who were flying it had managed to eject safely. A court of inquiry has been ordered into the matter. The aircraft was airborne from Uttarlai airbase. After a series of crashes due to bad safety conditions in the Mig aircraft, people have started calling them, as ‘Flying Coffins’.
MIG crashes have claimed deaths of more than 170 pilots in the last 46 years They were commissioned in the year 1970. In the year 2013, another MiG-21 Bison fighter aircraft of the IAF was crashed at the same area in Rajasthan. However, the pilot got killed in the accident.
Last year, a MiG-21 Bison aircraft of the IAF crashed at a village in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir. Then too, the pilot ejected safely from the aircraft without suffering any injuries. Another MiG-21 aircraft had crashed in January last year, towards the west of Jamnagar city on into a mangrove forest. There too the pilot managed to eject before the crash. Two years ago, in an MIG-21 fighter aircraft crash in Bijbehara area of Anantnag district in Kashmir, a pilot was killed.
