Twitterati interprets Gautam Gambhir’s tweet as a dig on M S Dhoni; reacts strongly to his post

Gautam Gambhir and M S Dhoni are undoubtedly the two stalwarts of Indian cricket. They have both given India, some really good days in history, to celebrate and to reminisce. While Dhoni continues to play for the nation as wicket-keeper and captain of the team, Gambhir has been out of the team for quite some time. He, however, continues to play in the Indian Premier League matches. But his absence from the national team or his performance at IPL matches is not why he’s making news currently.
Gautam Gambhir recently posted a photo on Twitter which has triggered a battle online. The highlighted line on the photo reads: “I don’t believe in biopics on cricketers. I think those people, who have contributed more to the country than cricketers, deserve a biopic. There are lots of people in the country who have done so many noble deeds for the nation. Therefore biopics should be made on their lives.”
Because, his post comes at a time when M S Dhoni’s biopic called ‘Dhoni : The Untold Story’ is hitting the screens on September 30, 2016, fans of Dhoni on Twitter lost their cool and retaliated at Gambhir’s tweet.
Further, following the attack on the 17 martyrs at Uri’s Baramulla district by a suicide squad from Pakistan, Gambhir tweeted how he thinks these martyrs deserve a biopic better than any cricketer, because “there’s no better inspiration than a young man sacrificing his life for his country.”
His tweets were met with frenzied reactions from Twitter users. Take a look.
@GautamGambhir if it can inspire n give India many more Greats like Sachin & MS Why not Champ? Kids shouldn't take up cricket n go 2 border?
@GautamGambhir You know what Sir!.. This is the reason u r still out of the game.. inspite of those marvellous innings nobody remembers u.
@GautamGambhir The one who contributes to the country is a hero. Be it any cricketer or soldier. Contribution deserves recognition.
@GautamGambhir Just because no one approached you for bio pics, doesn't mean cricketers shouldn't do bio pics. You should earn it .
Following the backlash his tweet garnered, Gambhir took to Twitter again, but to clarify that his tweet was not directed at M S Dhoni or his upcoming biopic, unlike what many people have misinterpreted his tweet as.
He said,
My detractors got it wrong. Am not against ANY ONE cricketer's biopic, am against d very concept which includes a biopic on my life.

Maybe,  after all, Gambhir’s tweet was not exactly a dig at everyone’s favourite cricketer and his upcoming biopic. Just that Sir, we’d say, the timing was a little off, given that Dhoni’s biopic is going to hit the theatres soon.
